Background to District Events Funding
This is an annually awarded fund of $30,000 with which the Council wishes to promote the development of a range of events which:
contribute to economic benefit for the District and/or raise the profile of the District as a vibrant and interesting place to live in and visit.
The Council will do this each year in a way that:
- provides an increasing range of events that will involve young people
- increases the use and development of tourism facilities
- where relevant, builds community awareness of issues and opportunities relevant to the community’s future.
The District Events Funding Allocation Policy was approved in December 2006.
Funding Allocation 2007
At the Finance and Audit Committee meeting on 27 September 2007, Councillors allocated the full $30,000 of the District Events Fund.
There were twelve eligible applications of which three were awarded funding: the Kapiti Harrier and Multi Sport Club, to be used towards running the 2008 New Zealand Cross Country Championships ($11,250); the Rotary Club of Kapiti Inc., to be used towards running the Summerfest 2008 community event ($11,250); and the Horowhenua Kapiti Maori Golf Association Inc., to be used towards running the 2008 National Maori Golf Tournament ($7,500).
Applications for next year's funding round should demonstrate how the event will satisfy one or more of the following:

Tourism: improve visitor recognition of the district, including greater use and development of tourism facilities
