Property Sales - Responsibilities of Ratepayers

If you sell your property but the Rates Assessment/Invoice is still in your name it would indicate that the Notice of Sale has not been received by the Council.

It is the responsibility of YOUR Solicitor to ensure that a Notice of Sale is provided to the Rates Office.  If this has not been done, please contact your Solicitor immediately.

Payment of the Rates Invoice is your responsibility although you may be entitled to reimbursement from the new owner for their period of occupation.

The Council cannot amend the ownership record of the Rating Unit (property) which appears on the Rate Assessment/Invoice unless the Property Title has been amended.

FOR DIRECT CREDIT CUSTOMERS - when your property is sold, please cancel your direct credit authority with your bank.

FOR DIRECT DEBIT CUSTOMERS - your direct debit arrangement with the Council will be terminated upon receipt of the property's Notice of Sale.  Do not cancel the direct debit authority with your bank yourself as this may also cancel other direct debits that are set up.
