Western Link Road

The Western Link Road will be a local road providing a low speed connection between Poplar Avenue in Raumati to Peka Peka, linking into every road it crosses on its 16 kilometre route.

It will provide easy north-south road connection within the District, and an alternative to using State Highway 1.

Feedback from Public Meetings held in November / December 2007

Following the two evening presentation meetings and the workshop which provided an update on progress with the design of the Western Link Road,  various questions and comments were documented which can be found below.

Q&A from 22 Nov 07 meeting.pdf

Q&A from 27 Nov 07 meeting.pdf

Comments from Workshop 1 Dec 07 placed on maps.pdf

The design of the road is progressing well and it is anticipated that further public consultation meetings will be held in March 2008.  Details of these meetings will be advertised in the local newspapers and on Council's website.

Designation

Hearings for the designation for the Western Link Road were held in 1998, with the Hearing Commissioners confirming the designation. This was appealed, and despite several subsequent hearings, the legal process continues.

The most recent hearing on appeals against the Western Link Road designation was held in the High Court on 27-29 September, 2004. The decision of the Court was issued on 26 October 2004 and found in favour of the Council, dismissing all the points of appeal.

High Court decision (54 pages, 252kb): dated 27 October 2004

Environment Court decision (36 pages, 4,558kb): dated 30 July 2003

High Court decision (43 pages, 4,249kb): dated 4 April 2003

Environment Court decision (47 pages, 8,458kb): dated 4 July 2002

The Commissioner's decision dated 4 July / 15 September 1998 is a 200 page document which is available for inspection, upon prior request, at the Council's offices.
