Community venues

The Kāpiti Coast District Council supplies and maintains a number of buildings for community use. These buildings provide suitable venues for residents to meet for leisure, recreation, sport, cultural, social, and educational activities.

Te Newhanga Kāpiti Community Centre | Waikanae Community Centre | Ōtaki Memorial Hall | Paekākāriki Memorial Hall | Paraparaumu Memorial Hall | Raumati South Memorial Hall | Waikanae Memorial Hall | Paraparaumu College Sports Hall | Paraparaumu Library Meeting Room | Reikorangi Hall | Te Horo Hall | Waikanae Beach Hall

At present these venues are used for various activities including private social events, meetings, play groups, and indoor leisure activities. They include:

  • two community centres
  • five memorial halls - Paekākāriki, Raumati, Paraparaumu, Waikanae and Ōtaki
  • a rural hall in Reikorangi Rd, Reikorangi
  • a sporting pavilion in Paraparaumu
  • a meeting room at the Paraparaumu Library.

Bookings can be made by phone as listed for each hall, or by email to kapiti.council@kapiticoast.govt.nz stating date, time, type of activity, numbers of people expected, and hall preference. The fee schedule can  be viewed here.

Te Newhanga Kāpiti Community Centre

Te Newhanga Kāpiti Community Centre was completed in 1996 after extensive fundraising. It is administered by a Trust Board and a team of staff run it on a day to day basis.

Your Community Centre is a vibrant, happening place that invites people of all ages to meet and participate in community life.  They have an inspiring range of community classes, exciting workshops and fun activities and events - helping make Kāpiti a great place to live, learn, work and play.

If it's a venue you require, pop in and check out the range of spaces they have available that work well for a variety of activities and functions.

Centrally located near shopping, Paraparaumu Library, train and bus stations and with ample parking for cars and coaches.

They provide:

  • free WIFI
  • an inviting atmosphere that's friendly and welcoming
  • a safe, accessible environment to meet
  • a range of meeting rooms for hire
  • venue for social functions, seminars, expos and events
  • community classes and workshops
  • activities and events
  • school holiday fun for children and youth

Waikanae Community Centre

The Waikanae Community Centre is suitable for smaller functions and meetings. It has a main hall with a stage, kitchen, and both male and toilets. The hall is situated at 28-32 Utauta Street, Waikanae.

Ōtaki Memorial Hall

The Ōtaki Memorial Hall has a variety of facilities including a main hall with stage, two changing rooms, a meeting/supper room, kitchen and male/female toilets. Situated on Main Street in Ōtaki, the hall is suitable for large functions, weddings, parties, public/group meetings and sports activities.

Paekākāriki Memorial Hall

The Paekākāriki Memorial Hall is suitable for smaller functions, such as, weddings, dances, church, and public meetings. It has a main hall with a stage, kitchen, both male and female changing rooms and toilets. The hall is situated at 98 The Parade, Paekākāriki.

Paraparaumu Memorial Hall

Paraparaumu Memorial Hall is situated on the corner of Aorangi and Tutanekai Streets. It is ideal for large functions, such as, weddings, balls, and parties. It is also used for public and group meetings and sports activities. The hall has a meeting/supper room, kitchen, and both male and female toilets.

Raumati South Memorial Hall

The Raumati South Memorial Hall is situated on Tennis Court Road, Raumati South. The hall’s facilities including a stage, committee room, meeting/supper room, kitchen and both male and female toilets. The hall also has disabled access. The hall is suitable for large functions, such as, weddings and parties, sports activities, and both public and group meetings.

Waikanae Memorial Hall

The Waikanae Memorial Hall is suitable for large functions, for example, weddings and dances. It is also suitable for public and group meetings, sporting and cultural activities. The hall has a main hall with a stage, a smaller hall, kitchen, both male and female toilets and a disabled persons’ toilet.

Paraparaumu College Sports Hall

The sports hall is situated on the Paraparaumu College complex. It has a main hall, male & female changing rooms with showers/toilets and a storage area. The main use of the hall is for sporting activities and gymnasium use.

Paraparaumu Library Meeting Room

Located in the foyer of the library, Iver Trask Place, Paraparaumu (behind the Council Office). Seats up to 50 people. Facilities include whiteboard, free WiFi (during library opening hours) and kitchen facilities. Suitable for community groups or business meetings. Nearby cafe can supply light meals/snacks at a reasonable price.

Reikorangi Hall

The Reikorangi Hall has a main hall, kitchen and both male and female toilets. It is suitable for small functions; group meetings, such as, church meetings and art training; and public meetings. The hall is situated on Akatarawa Road, Reikorangi, Waikanae.

Te Horo Hall

The Te Horo Community Hall is run by an incorporated society and supported by the Kāpiti Coast District Council. The hall is suitable for large functions and for public and group meetings as well as indoor and outdoor sporting events. It consists of a large main hall with a stage, a large kitchen area which can sit 80, both male and female toilets.  It is suitable for hiring for any size of function up to about 300 attendees.

Waikanae Beach Hall

The Waikanae Beach Hall is situated in Rauparaha Street, Waikanae. The hall is suitable for smaller functions, such as, dances, and both public and group meetings. It has a main hall, kitchen, both male and female toilets and a disabled persons’ toilet.
