The rebuild and resurfacing of Te Ātiawa Park courts is now complete! Te Ātiawa Park courts have undergone some big changes, including applying a new specialised acrylic surface. You'll start to see tennis nets being put up over the next week but, in the meantime, the courts are open!
One of our key initiatives as part of the FutureKāpiti Long term plan 2015-2035 was rebuilding the Te Ātiawa Park courts. This is a very popular venue - used by thousands of netball and tennis players every year - and we think it now meets the needs of our community.
Community feedback on the courts focused on surface cracking that had occurred over time. As well as providing a new, smooth surface to improve player safety, the rebuild addressed problems with drainage.
The work done included digging out the area, removing existing asphalt, compacting underlying layers, adding a sealant layer, laying new asphalt and in November an acrylic sports surface was applied to the newly laid courts. The surface, called Synpave, is a popular surface that caters for both tennis and netball players.
