Dry homes are cheaper to heat.

by RIchard Morrison, Eco Homes Advisor.

If I tipped half a bucket of water on to your carpet what would you say to me? No doubt some choice words would come to mind! But did you know that the same amount of moisture (over 5 litres), comes off a load of washing drying inside.

In winter time the key to affordably keeping your home warm and dry is all about reducing moisture in the air.

Several studies have proven there is a direct correlation between poor family health and a cold damp home. In a cold home your family will have a lot more incidents of coughs, asthma, and bronchial problems. The result is in ill and unhappy families, days off school and work large medical bills and other associated issues.

There are lots of simple things that you can do. By ventilating for 30 minutes daily (even on damp days), your home will be drier and create less opportunity for the growth of mould, dust mites and limit the build-up of mould.

Showers and baths, cooking, washing clothes and dishes, indoor plants all contribute to the total moisture content of homes. It’s important that we reduce these sources of moisture by ventilation, exterior vented range hoods and bathroom extractors.
