Paekākāriki Playcentre Bonanza goes Waste Free

When: - 05 Nov 2016 10:00 a.m. - 05 Nov 2016 14:00 p.m.

Where: Paekākāriki Playcentre, 22 Wellington Road.

Paekakariki Playcentre’s is holding its annual Bonanza fundrasing event on November 5th, from 10am-2pm.

The Playcentre is opening its doors to treat it's wider community to a fun day out, including free live music from local musicians including Fat Teddies, Holly Ewens, and Al Witham. There is also homemade lemonade, gourmet ice-blocks,  baking and crafts  children’s games, secondhand clothing and toys on sale.

As always the Bonanza promises to be a day of fun for the whole family - and this year, without the waste as the Playcentre has taken on the challenge of holding a waste-free event. “It just makes sense.” said Amy Delahunty, current Playcentre President. “Respecting our environment is a core Playcentre value.” As part of the initiative, Kāpiti Coast District Council has provided bin lids to encourage the crowd to recycle appropriately. Food scraps will be composted in the centre’s own worm farm. “We also want to encourage people to BYOB (bring your own bag), as we’d love to be plastic bag free.”  says parent, Alexandra Saunders. There is will also be a Zero Waste prize draw - return your Bonaza flyer, with your name on the back and go into the draw to win a $50 voucher from Coastlands. Flyers will then be composted along with the food scraps.

Following in the tradition of previous years (notably in 2013 when a jar of marmite was auctioned reaching a record price due to the marmite famine) a live auction will be held, this year featuring a hair cut, colour and style valued at $220 from Happy Go Lucky Hair House. There will also be two hampers to be raffled, a family hamper filled with a weeks worth of groceries and family fun vouchers and a gourmet basket, supported by The Perching Parrot cafe and Beach Road Deli.

Follow the Bonanza on the Paekākāriki facebook page to learn about more exciting prizes.
