Expressway
Latest Updates
The Levin to Wellington Airport corridor has been identified as a Road of National Significance. A quality link is needed to provide proper service to Wellington, the Kapiti Coast, Levin, Palmerston North and the lower North Island.
A number of options have been identified over many years to try and improve the highway, including diverting local traffic on to the proposed Western Link Road.
The new priority is to provide a high standard four-lane expressway through the whole corridor, to the benefit of all road users. The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) is seeking residents’ views on the State Highway options. Recently, the Minister indicated consideration would be given to a 3rd Option which would propose placing a four-lane motorway down the route of the existing two-lane Western Link road. As a result, consultation has been extended to the end of October.
Follow this link to the NZTA consultation site for full details and documentation and information on how to submit.
A brochure was distributed to Kapiti Coast District households earlier which focused on two options. A second brochure was distrubuted on the 1st October that outlined three options.
