The New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) announced its decision on the Wellington Northern Corridor Route of National Significance (RoNS) on 18 December 2009.
The Expressway through the Kāpiti district extends from MacKays Crossing to north of Ōtaki. This is being developed as two separate projects, the southern section from MacKays Crossing to Peka Peka and the northern section from Peka Peka to Ōtaki.
The Expressway follows the general corridor of the Council's former Western Link Road, which is now on hold.
The Northern Expressway includes a bypass of Ōtaki town centre.
The NZTA website contains information about the MacKays to Peka Peka Expressway and Peka Peka to Ōtaki Expressway, see links below.
Property owners who are concerned about the potential effects of the projects should contact the NZTA directly, 04 894 5200. Information about property owners' rights is available from Land Information New Zealand (LINZ). View LINZ website here.
