Coastlands Aquatic Centre - Design Options
Two design options for the aquatic centre were explored.
One was a traditional form of construction, and the other using a transparent film for the roof.
A final decision on the option for final design was made by the Council on 16 December 2010. Council chose the ETFE option principally on the grounds of the cost savings that will arise from a reduction in energy use of the building. Estimated energy cost savings are more than $30,000 a year over the traditional roof option. The expected savings over the life of the pool will be more than $1million.
Application for Resource consents for the work can now commence, and detailed design.
