Further work required on Aquatic Centre and Civic Building tenders
Friday 11 November 2011
Tenders for the Coastlands Aquatic Centre and the planned Civic Building upgrade have come in higher than expected, says Mayor Jenny Rowan.
“A great deal of effort went into the pre-tender process, so we were very surprised by the tenders we received for both projects.
“Council staff are now working with the designers and the tenderers for both projects to identify where savings can be made without compromising the original design concepts.”
Mayor Rowan said councillors had been fully briefed on the situation and were determined that there would be no adverse impact on rates. “Councillors are very determined on this point.”
Staff reports on both projects were to be discussed by Council on November 17. The issues will now go to a special Council meeting called for December 8.
“In the meantime we are not in a position to go into details while discussions are underway with the tenderers involved. All relevant details will go to the Council meeting on December 8.”
