Kāpiti Coast District Libraries are teaming up with the 2020 Communications Trust and other SMART Libraries in Porirua, Masterton, and Lower Hutt to encourage communities to complete census forms online on Census Day – Tuesday 5 March 2013.

The emphasis in 2013 is to have people fill in their census online. People who do not feel confident completing their forms online at home, or do not have a computer and internet access can come to Paraparaumu, Waikanae or Ōtaki Libraries, with their census pack. Staff and volunteers will help them connect to the Statistics New Zealand census site.

District Arts and Libraries Manager, Leeann Morgan says LibrarySMART Libraries see Census Day as an opportunity for libraries to bring communities and eGovernment together.

"Most people live a short distance from a library and we have the technology and knowledge to help so we saw this as an ideal opportunity to get involved."

Ms Morgan says the Paraparaumu Library has18 free internet computers and the total number throughout the district is 35.

"As well as filling in census forms next week, with free wifi and internet access the libraries are a great place to go if you want to email or skype friends, search the internet, and watch your favourite You Tube clip or write a CV."

On Census Day next Tuesday district libraries will be open normal hours from 9am to 5pm.
