Electoral Rolls

NZ Elections Link

The Electoral Roll of local authorities is made up of two combined rolls:

  • the Parliamentary Roll – a list provided by law by the Electoral Enrolment Centre
  • a Ratepayer’s Roll – containing, principally, non-resident ratepayers – those who own property in the Kapiti Coast District, but live and are on the Parliamentary Roll in another District or City.

All resident electors and non-resident ratepayer electors whose names appear on the electoral rolls are eligible to vote in their local authority elections.

The preliminary electoral rolls, one for each community, will be available for public inspection at Council Offices, Libraries and NZ Post Shops within the District from 21 July 2010. The final Roll, used to post out voting papers to electors, is available from 13 September 2010.

Resident Roll

All parliamentary electors are automatically enrolled on the local authority residential electoral roll at the address where they live.

The Electoral Enrolment Centre (EEC) will commence their Enrolment Update Campaign on 5 July 2010.  From that date every person currently on that roll will be sent the details that the EEC has on their system. If your details are correct you need do nothing more to be included on the roll for the local authority elections.

If you are unsure whether you are correctly enrolled or have recently moved you can take action now by:

  • completing the appropriate form, available at any NZ Post Shop
  • telephoning 0800 ENROLNOW (0800 367 656), or
  • accessing the Electoral Enrolment Centre website on www.elections.org.nz

These forms are also available at the Council Office, 175 Rimu Road Paraparaumu, or Waikanae and Ōtaki Service Centres.

Ratepayer Roll

If a person is on the parliamentary roll in one electoral area of New Zealand and pays rates on a property in another electoral area they may be eligible to be enrolled on the non-resident Ratepayer Roll (in Kāpiti Coast).

Ratepayer Roll enrolment forms are available by phoning (04) 296 4700 or 0800-486-486 (toll-free) or by visiting one of our Service Centres.
