Independent Trustee – Kāpiti Coast Affordable Housing Trust
He Angitūtanga: The opportunity
Kāpiti Coast District Council is establishing a Trust to support and enhance the ongoing provision of social and affordable housing across the district. This Trust will be tasked with developing innovative and effective options to help:
- Meet the current and future housing needs of residents on the Coast
- Improve access to affordable housing
- Create partnerships in the development and delivery of housing.
The Trust will be an independent charitable housing entity, with Council, mana whenua and independent representation on the board.
The scope of the Trust’s remit will include, in partnership with other providers, to leverage assets transferred to the Trust into innovative projects to provide affordable rental and home ownership options in the district.
This expression of interest seeks applications from people who have interest in being considered for a trustee role for the new entity. This is an opportunity to contribute to the establishment of a significant new entity focused on making a meaningful difference for those in our community.

Inaugural trustees will provide best practice governance in accordance with the purposes for which the Trust is being established Download an information pack [PDF 1.84 MB] . You will govern with our communities’ outcomes front-of-mind, along with a commitment to the entity’s long-term sustainability.
In particular, we are seeking applications from those with some or all of the following:
- Experience in community, social or affordable housing;
- Knowledge of working within the paradigms of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Te ao Māori, mātauranga Māori, and tikanga Māori;
- Empathy for the communities we serve;
- A background in strategy development, business planning, policy development and organisational change;
- Experience in property development;
- Experience in financial management;
- Other relevant leadership experience in the social, not-for-profit or NGO sectors.
