About the role
The Senior Advisor Sectors and Business Sustainability is a permanent role within the Economic Development team which is part of the Strategy and Growth group. Additionally, we work with the Economic Development Kotahitanga Board to support the implementation of the Economic Development Strategy.
The position supports a portfolio of local industry clusters, including Food and Beverage and Business Sustainability (Pakihi Toitu o Kāpiti). The Kāpiti Coast’s Food and Beverage cluster is well progressed and requires someone to quickly get up to speed and form excellent working relationships with the cluster and cluster coordinator to support the further ambitions of the group, in alignment with the Economic Development Strategy.
This is an externally focused role which is highly active in the local business community and will often be the first port of call for a wide variety of businesses and stakeholders. You will work in a close-knit team which seeks to support and grow our business community. Our portfolios often overlap, requiring a collaborative team player who can think strategically and deliver operational requirements.
A varied role, you will undertake the following:
- Contribute to strategy development and implementation
- Prepare board papers and council reports
- Lead the implementation of the Kāpiti Food and Beverage industry Game plan
- Manage external vendors, contracts, budgets and invoices in the finance system
- Organise and attend industry events
- Present to the Economic Development Kotahitanga Board (EDKB) and Elected Members
- Form positive working relationships across Council, with business associations and industry groups
- Undertake project management including developing project documentation
Skills and Experience
To be successful in the role, you will:
- be a strategic thinker focused on achieving results
- excel in building effective relationships and supporting Kāpiti’s businesses
- have strong written and verbal communication skills, and be able to present information clearly to a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders
- demonstrate awareness of tikanga Māori and Pakihi Māori
- possess experience in business case development and ideally, strategy development
- understand economic development principles and models, including cluster / industry-based approaches
- have ideally worked with the Food and Beverage or other relevant industry sectors, and a passion for enabling sustainable businesses.
