Tips for Searching

Advanced Search

The Advanced Search button can help you be more specific with your search. You can search for a word or phrase within a particular search category or use multiple categories to further narrow down your search results. For example, searching White in the People field will bring up any records associated with a member of the White family, without having to sift through black & white photographs. You can also search People and Creator records through Advanced Search. Phrase searching with quotes and use of wildcards (*) are available in Advanced Search.

Random Images

The Random Images button is a great way to just browse the collection. Each Random Images page displays a random assortment of images from the records online. If something piques your interest, click the thumbnail to view a larger version of the image.

Catalogue Searches (Archives / Photos / Libraries / Objects)

The catalogue buttons can also help narrow down your search, by only searching with a selected catalogue. If you only want to search for Photos, click the Photos button and type in your keyword(s) or phrase. You can also browse records within that catalogue without performing a search. Phrase searching, wildcards (*) as well as AND/OR statements are available when performing catalogue searches.

Mau Mahara: Kāpiti

Welcome to Mau Mahara - the online database for the Kāpiti Coast District Libraries Heritage Collections. Mau Mahara provides easy online access to a rich store of images and archival material relating to the Kāpiti Coast and surrounding areas.

The Mau Mahara database is a work in progress and we are continuing to add new photos and additional details. It is not a complete listing of our Heritage Collection holdings. Please start your search here and contact us if you do not find what you are looking for.

Using Images

All images included herein are intended for research and personal use only. You may download and reproduce jpegs for free from the Mau Mahara database. However images cannot be publicly displayed or used commercially without permission.

For higher resolution digital files (scans) the following charges will apply:

Ordering digital images for personal use: (e.g. research, family archives, a gift…)

• Digital files (sent by email): $5.00 each file

For commercial use: (e.g. advertising, promotional material, publications, display in business or exhibition spaces…)

• An additional commercial reproduction fee of $50 may be added, depending on the purpose for which the image is required.
