Fluid, lively figurative paintings and drawings made from direct observation.
Harriet Bright makes fresh, vital paintings and drawings of people and animals. She works from life, and creates work full of spirit and movement. Paintings are in oil and watercolour, and drawings are predominantly in ink.
She has been the winner of the prestigious Adam award for portraiture, and exhibits regularly in New Zealand.
In 2016 Harriet Bright was the subject of a two person show at the New Zealand Portrait gallery alongside Elspeth Shannon.
Drawing is a fundamental to Bright's work, and she is recognised for her fluid line, and the immediacy of her drawings. The human body predominates in her work, with a consistent return to life drawing. She is delighted and absorbed by both the nude, and the atmosphere and cameraderie of group drawing.
Bright lives and works in Paekakariki, where visitors to her studio are always welcome.
