Kāpiti Coast Youth Council | Ngā Rangatahi O Kāpiti

The Kāpiti Coast Youth Council is a volunteer group that meets once a month to provide advice to Council on the needs, thoughts and ideas of young people aged 14-24 years living in Kāpiti. The Youth Council undertakes a range of activities including:  

  • advocating for young people’s voices 
  • supporting youth led projects 
  • connecting young people to their community 
  • educating young people on civic issues.  

The objectives of the Kāpiti Coast Youth Council are to:

  •  provide advice, input and feedback on Council policies, initiatives and projects
  • identify emerging trends, opportunities and challenges for young people in our community 
  •  progress actions in partnership with the Council which support the needs of their communities 
  • advocate for our diverse youth communities in Kāpiti   
  • provide an inclusive and diverse representation of our communities of young people.   

Some of the recent work by the group includes:

  • advocating for and presenting to council on the significance of a youth development centre
  • co-design and promotion of the 2025 Youth Survey 
  • input for the design of Te Ara Whetū (the new library in Waikanae)
  • feedback on Council’s emission reduction strategy
  • supporting school leadership teams in celebrating Youth Week
  • sponsoring Run for Youth
  • submitting to the Long-Term Plan
  • engaging with Council on issues of interest: climate action and public transport advocacy
