Exploring the Fundraising Landscape

A Free Forum for Community Organisations

Tuesday 29 May 9 AM – 1 PM

Coast Community Church, 57 Hinemoa Street, Paraparaumu

The aim of this forum is to give Kāpiti community organisations advice and ideas of how to best grow their income, using a combination of different methods. It will include information and ideas about:

  • Blue sky thinking - how to think outside the box and be brave with your fundraising
  • How to find and approach potential private donors and corporate sponsors
  • How to make the most of your volunteer workforce, and how to translate that into income
  • How to build sustainable income for the long term
  • What online tools, support agencies and organisations are available to help
  • Applying for grants - how best to apply, what not to do and who funds what

The forum includes two panels of speakers and table sessions to allow small group discussion with specialists on a range of funding topics. There are two specialist panels; ‘diversifying your income’ and ‘grant funding’.  After the panels, there will be time for organisations to meet with the speakers to ask specific advice about growing income for their organisation.

Speakers include:

Nicky Sayer: Project Researcher, Victoria University. Nicky has sixteen years experience in fundraising including stints with YWCA, Family Planning, Mary Potter Hospice, and an on-going role with Hockey New Zealand. She is responsible for Victoria University’s gift and bequest programme. She has a wealth of knowledge on sourcing and securing donors, direct marketing and making the most of an organisation's database.

Sarah Doherty: NZ Navigator Trust. Sarah Doherty has vast expertise in the not for profit sector and the importance of organisational resilience and funding. The NZ Navigator Trust aims to equip community organisations to self-assess their own organisational capability as well as encourage and support greater credibility and legitimacy with funders.
