In early December, a ‘Collaboration Café’ brought together a range of organisations in the district’s not for profit community sector to have a chat about collaboration. Collaboration has become a bit of a theme over the year - in conversations within the sector and with Council. At the café, organisations looked at where they were on the collaboration journey and shared ideas about how collaboration could be explored further .
A key theme was that while Kāpiti is facing more complex issues and challenges, there is a real opportunity to be innovative and creative in addressing those. Working together collaboratively was seen as an important way to tackle challenges and create real and significant social impact. As a participant at the Café put it, “we can accomplish more together”.
At the event, organisations determined that collaboration can help us:
There were some great ideas gathered about how organisations could collaborate, from sharing knowledge and expertise, sharing volunteer skills, to sharing resources like vans and work spaces.
Many people felt the session was a great start but more is needed. Watch this space in 2018 for further opportunities, to be involved in Kāpiti’s collaboration journey!
