MeloYelo: an opportunity for mechanically savvy bike enthusiasts!

EVolocity is a charitable organisation running a programme in high schools where teams design and build electric vehicles; growing interest in pursuing engineering studies and careers while also growing youth awareness of the environmental and performance benefits of electric transportation.

EVolocity has launched a new fundraising initiative – MeloYelo – which is selling affordable electric bikes, as well as sales and installation of retrofit kits to convert existing bikes to electric. And, we are looking for representatives on the Kāpiti Coast.

We’re looking for mechanically savvy, outgoing people with an interest in bikes and electric bikes, who have time on their hands and who are willing to get out in their communities to promote ebikes and conversions. Any net proceeds EVolocity makes from this initiative go directly to support our electric vehicle programme in high schools. EVolocity has been running for 3 years and is a big hit with teachers and students. We’re working on introducing the programme to Kāpiti and Wellington region schools in 2017.

The demand for ebikes is growing rapidly, but there is still a lack of awareness of ebikes and their benefits. People also need to be given opportunities to test ride them – that’s what really sells them.

Some bike shops are selling ebikes but someone has to walk into a bike shop to discover them. We’re looking for people who will get out to community events, host demo evenings for friends and family, visit lifestyle villages, Menzsheds, etc. and offer education and test rides as a means of generating sales.

You can view our current product range here. We offer training workshops to equip you with the skills you need to perform conversions. (The fact is that some people love their existing bike, they just want it to be easier to ride.) The conversion process is not difficult. Each conversion will take approximately 4 hours.

Our representatives make money in the following ways:

  • commission on the sale of new electric bikes;
  • commission on the sale of motor kits and batteries;
  • the fee for performing the conversion service (currently $200 per conversion).
