Want to publish your book? Kāpiti Coast District Libraries periodically offers a series of workshops on self-publishing at Paraparaumu Library. The next series begins on 16 April 2020 and continues through to 23 May 2020. Please note each workshop costs $45 per person and pre-payment is essential to secure a booking. If you are a library card holder, please use your card number and the charge will be added to your card.

We're changing things up a little for the 2020 series by repeating each workshop on the following Saturday morning.

Note, all workshops will be in the Learning Centre, 1st Floor, Paraparaumu Library, except the workshop on Saturday 18 April which will be in the Paraparaumu Library Meeting Room (on right at entrance).

Comprehensive Guide to Self-Publishing

Thursday 16 April (5.15 –  7.15 pm), repeated on Saturday 18 April (10.30 am – 12.30 pm)

This two-hour workshop will take a look at publishing today and pre-publication essentials, before focusing on what's required to turn your manuscript into an eBook or print-on-demand book available for sale at online stores. It includes formatting, cover, metadata (title, description and keywords etc), uploading to retail stores, and marketing.

Formatting Print and eBooks using Microsoft Word & Draft2Digital

Thursday 23 April (5.15 –  7.15 pm), repeated on Sunday 26 April (10.30 am – 12.30 pm) (Note: Saturday 25th is Anzac Day)

This practical workshop will show you how to format both print and eBooks using Microsoft Word and Draft2Digital (an online distributor of eBooks) to sell on Amazon and other online retail stores such as iBooks and Kobo.

Using Cover Design to Brand your Book

Thursday 30 April (5.15 –  7.15 pm), repeated on Saturday 2 May (10.30 am – 12.30 pm)

Whether you decide to contract out your book cover design (which we advise) or have a go at doing it yourself, this workshop will help you to understand the basics of cover design and how these should be used to complement your 'brand'.

Websites

Thursday 7 May (5.15 –  7.15 pm), repeated on Saturday 9 May (10.30 am – 12.30 pm)

This is a practical workshop focusing on one of the most important marketing tools for authors: websites. We'll look at what's entailed, the different options available, and try our hand at creating a website.

Newsletters

Thursday 14 May (5.15 –  7.15 pm), repeated on Saturday 16 May (10.30 am – 12.30 pm)

This is a practical workshop focusing on one of the most important marketing tools for authors: collecting emails from readers in order to send out newsletters. We'll take an in-depth look at Mailchimp.

Marketing

Thursday 21 May (5.15 –  7.15 pm), repeated on Saturday 23 May (10.30 am – 12.30 pm)

This workshop looks at the different marketing tools available for authors to market their books successfully.
