Pharazyn Reserve
Pharazyn Reserve is a large reserve located away from the hustle and bustle of town life and is home to many birds. A flying fox makes Pharazyn Reserve’s playground a favourite amongst kids – both young and old. Picnic tables, a toilet and plenty of space to explore makes this one of Waikanae’s great open spaces.
The reserve is beside the Te Harakeke Swamp, the second largest area of harakeke flaxland and raupo reedland in the Kapiti District, and an important example of habitat that used to be common common in our district. Wetland habitat is rare across Aotearoa New Zealand, and dune forest and swamp forest are rare locally.
