Protect Historic Heritage in the Kāpiti District
Do you want to protect an historic building, site or structure, a notable tree, or an archaeological site?
You can nominate historic heritage features for inclusion in the Historic Heritage Register in the Kāpiti Coast District Plan.
Many historic heritage features are on private land, and protecting historic heritage in our District is often reliant on the goodwill of landowners.
Sometimes an historic heritage feature is significant enough to protect through registering it in the Kāpiti Coast District Plan’s Historic Heritage Register. This means the feature can't be modified without getting a resource consent.
Each nominated historic heritage feature will be visited by a Council officer and assessed for its significance. Significant features to be added to the Historic Heritage Register will be proposed through the District Plan Review process.
Making a nomination
If you'd like to nominate a historic heritage feature for protection, please complete a nomination form.
