Rates for 2023/24

In 2023/24 our property rates increased an average of 7.8 percent across the district to cover the cost of providing our services and facilities and initiatives identified in year 3 of our Long-term Plan 2021–41 (note this excludes Greater Wellington Regional Council rates). Council adopted the Annual Plan 2023/24 and set the rates for 2023/24 on 29 June 2023.

Average rates vs individual property rates

Increases for each property will vary due to:

• property differences in value, type and location
• the changes in a property's value in districtwide revaluations (revaluations are carried out every three years)
• the impact of Greater Wellington Regional Council's rates increase. 

Greater Wellington Regional Council also adopted their Annual Plan 2023/24 and set their rates for 2023/24 on 29 June 2023. The average rates increase for Greater Wellington Regional Council for 2023/24 is 16.94 percent. For more information, visit Greater Wellington Regional Council — Annual plans.
