Payment options
This page outlines how you can pay your property rates to Kāpiti Coast District Council. Ratepayers have several payment options which are listed below.

Direct debit
You can arrange to pay your property's rates by direct debit from your bank account on either weekly, fortnightly, monthly or quarterly instalments. If there are any changes to your rates amounts owing, they will be adjusted automatically after written notification - you do not have to visit the bank to make the change.
If you sell your property and purchase a new one, you must complete a new direct debit authority. This will not be automatically transferred to your new property. To arrange a new direct debit authority, either use the form below or contact the Rates team.
If you wish to cancel your direct debit authority please advise us in writing using the form below or by email [email protected].
Please do not cancel the authority at your bank. This will cancel all existing authorities or new authorities to Kāpiti Coast District Council.
Internet or telephone banking
You can use internet or telephone banking to pay your property rates. To make arrangements for either of these options:
- set up separate payments for each valuation number you are paying, this will ensure your payment will go to the correct property
- identify "Kapiti Coast District Council" as the creditor on your internet/telephone banking log in
- specify your valuation number (ten-digit number shown below your name and address on your quarterly combined Rates Invoice/Credit Note)
Kāpiti Coast District Council should already be set up as a bill payee with your bank. You do not need to quote our bank account number just quote "Kapiti Coast District Council". When prompted to add a reference / account number please show your ten digit valuation number (this number is located on your rates assessment notice, rates invoice or from the Rates Property Search).
If you sell your property and purchase another, you will need to change the reference used to that of your new valuation number.
Credit Card
You can pay your property's rates with by Visa or MasterCard card online here.
Property number - You will need your property number from your quarterly Rates Invoice. (not your valuation number).
Credit Card convenience fee - Westpac New Zealand Ltd charges a convenience fee per transaction for this service. The current convenience fee is displayed on the credit card payment screen before any payment information is requested. Kāpiti Coast District Council does not receive any part of this fee.
Allow processing time - Be sure to allow time before your instalment due date for processing the transaction. If you make your payment before 10.30pm, the payment will appear in your Kāpiti Coast District Council rate account on the following business day. Transactions after 10.30pm will appear after two business days.
Terms and conditions - By paying online you accept and agree to be bound by the Online Transactions Terms and Conditions.
In person
You can pay in person with cash, cheque or EFTPOS at the Civic Building, 175 Rimu Road, Council's Service Centres at Waikanae and Ōtaki libraries or your local PostShop or Westpac branch.

Post
You can post a cheque payment to:

Private Bag 60601
Paraparaumu 5254
Please enclose the remittance advice with your cheque to ensure payment is allocated to the correct property.
Do not post cash.
Receipts will not be issued unless they are specifically requested.
Pay rates in full
Ratepayers are welcome to pay their full year's property rates in one lump sum. The amount due for this option is detailed on the invoice as the balance to 30 June (includes any outstanding rates and penalties).
Penalties
A 10% penalty will be added to the portion of an instalment that remains unpaid after the due date for the relevant instalment.
An additional 10% penalty will be added on 6 July 2018 to any rates remaining unpaid from previous financial years as at 5 July 2018.
