Our Safe Drinking Water
At Kapiti Coast District Council we are constantly working to make sure you have a safe and reliable drinking water supply. We treat all our public water supplies in accordance with New Zealand Drinking Water Standards and monitor them to make sure it’s safe to drink. The treatment and operational procedures at our water treatment plants are specifically designed to address potential contamination risks and produce safe drinking water.
We use a multi barrier approach to water treatment in Kāpiti. Our water supplies are continuously disinfected with chlorine and treated with high-intensity ultra violet (UV) light to kill any micro-organisms (bacteria, protozoa and viruses) that might be in the water. We continuously monitor our treatment plants and regularly check the quality of the water that flows to our taps and immediate actions are taken if something is not right.
