Rebecca works primarily in clay, with excursions into stone, wood and fleece.
She finds inspiration expressing the beauty and ephemerality of nature. She also works from her imagination, and is inspired by dreams, travel, and her love of animals.
Rebecca holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Canada where she exhibited before moving to New Zealand. She won many awards and scholarships during her studies, and had a ceramic piece selected for exhibition in the Governor General’s House.
Rebecca enjoys the alchemy of fire and clay, and the element of surprise that this brings to her work. She makes most of her own glazes and is continually experimenting with new recipes and techniques, as she seeks surfaces that will reveal and enhance the sculptural details of her forms.
Having worked full time as a kindergarten teacher for many years, Rebecca has recently established her first studio, in the garden of her home, where she drinks tea, listens to music and lets her imagination run wild.
