Kāpiti Arts Guide Listing no. 29
Amanda is an abstract painter. Her paintings are bold, graphic, dynamic, busy patterned works confined and shaped into being. Still life, stylised figures and landscapes in subject. She has won awards in Kāpiti for her artworks, and her work is held in local & international collections.
Amanda’s paintings have a strong content emphasis on found, preloved, inherited, object ‘treasures’. Amanda translates and documents these objects to be seen with a new eye in her painting. Op shop finds, retro West German & Italian pottery, Murano glass all fascinate Amanda.
Amanda has created her own studio, an essential space to grow her art practice seriously. She has a fascination with the suffragette and early art history in New Zealand, the struggle to be taken seriously as a woman painter: still true even in today’s world. Amanda’s professional background is in graphic design and she enjoys working on design projects for Mahara Galllery where she works part-time in gallery administration.
