Kāpiti Arts Guide Listing no. 22
Flight and metamorphosis are prominent themes in Chrissie’s work. She morphs imagery of family heirlooms such as antique cutlery, postcards, postage stamps & china plates with butterflies, seahorses and shells, to create new narratives. Sometimes she paints a flying seahorse, sometimes she screenprints an enchanted garden on a beautiful old leather book. Chrissie’s quirky and detailed creations are characterized by their personal and historic subject matter. Genres include landscape, portraiture and still life and she explores and combines mediums such as drawing, collage, solar plate & dry-point etching, woodcut and screen print. Recently Chrissie has experimented with printmaking techniques on handmade ceramic tiles and forms.
In 2012 Chrissie was the recipient of the Open Art Award at Mahara Gallery’s Annual Art Review. She spends her time between part-time teaching and pursuing the creative projects, concepts, and ideas she feels passionate about.
