Kāpiti Arts Guide Listing no. 106
My introduction to woodturning was taking a Certificate Course provided by the National School of Woodturning through Aoraki Polytechnic in 2012. This was a comprehensive course that covered a wide variety of techniques and developed a range of skills. Since then I have continued to explore and develop specific aspects of woodturning with a view to combining practical use with aesthetically pleasing forms. Some of my work incorporates non-wood items such as clear and coloured acrylic, shells, paint and pyrography. I use a range of locally sourced timbers including walnut, cedar, elm, macrocarp, and pohutukawa. By mixing segments of dark and light-coloured timbers patterns can be generated in the work. My studio is a small section of a single garage.
