Kāpiti Arts Guide Listing no. 41
Slim became interested in painting during his high school years in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. His principle subjects were portrayals of scenic views reflecting the vastness of his environment in Canada and, as a contrast to the Canadian prairies, he loved painting the deserts of Arizona. Through the years Slim occasionally painted for friends and family but had little time to pursue this interest.
Following retirement in 2013 Slim and his wife Shirley immigrated to New Zealand where they both decided to return to their love of art. Slim's interest in painting landscapes and still life continues and he works in both watercolors and acrylics. The Petkaus were very fortunate to have found a property in Waikanae that included a building which had housed an office that they converted to a comfortable studio. During the past four years Slim has done commission work for clients in Australia, the U.S., Canada, and New Zealand.
