Kāpiti Arts Guide Listing no. 86
Vinny Thompson started working with clay in 2001. The clay is formed into an orb, tile, platter or bowl. The image is carved into the surface and the piece is left to dry. After the first firing, glazes are painted on by hand, and then the second firing completes the artwork.
Recurring themes in Vinny’s work include character buildings and native birds. The last couple of years have seen a shift in focus to tuatara sculptures, something Vinny is passionate about. She has created a new body of sculptures with a tuatara theme.
Vinny’s work can be found at the Academy Galleries, and she is a regular exhibitor at the New Zealand Art Show. Visitors to Vinny’s studio are welcome by appointment. For more details, visit her website , call, or email.
