Kāpiti Arts Guide Listing no. 63
I was born in Mozambique and settled on the Kapiti Coast at the beginning of 1999. I started art/craft as a small child, encouraged by my father and two Mozambican artists from whom I learnt oil painting and sculpture. From my mother and maternal grandmother I learnt to sew and crochet.
New Zealand’s environment brought back the desire to get back into art. I work with clay, textiles and like to dabble in organic dyes. I also paint, mainly watercolours and pastels. My art is influenced by nature, its patterns, flora and fauna, especially birds. The sea is also a great influence in my life as well as my Portuguese background, growing up in Africa and its culture are also a strong influence in my creations, especially colour.
Artistic medium: Ceramics/Pottery, Mosaics
