My practice explores the nature and being of objects, nesting in the philosophical enquiry of Object-Oriented Ontology. ‘OOO’ seeks to move beyond the anthropocentric perspective, delving deep into the world of objects in themselves, by putting objects first (before humanity) to ask what this might mean for how we do philosophy, how we think about the world, and how we think about art. For ‘OOO’ all objects, real and sensual, are entities in themselves.
To explain objects Graham Harman elaborated on Martin Heidegger’s philosophical book Being and Time and described an object’s nature and being as an axis: the first tangent a duel of ‘revealed’ and ‘concealed,’ a constant shift from conscious consideration of their nature to a hidden subterraneous realm unknown to all other entities while perpendicular to this the second tangent describes the difference between ‘beings as one’ and ‘being as many’, an individual object as such and objects categorised by their bundles of qualities.
