Kāpiti Arts Guide: Listing no. 53
Artistic medium: Eco Dyeing, Sculptural Harakeke Weaving, Contemporary Basketry
Demonstration time: Throughout both weekends
The sustainable and holistic approach to creation is a key aspect of my work and the process of making is equally important as the finished work. Using and making natural materials takes time, which allows me to get to know their properties and potential that fosters my understanding for the materials and the whenua.
Creating my own materials in their purest form has become an eminent part to me for making art. Working with natural materials challenges me to use and manipulate them in a creative way without diminishing their personality and mauri.
This includes sculptural woven forms, eco dyed merino and silk scarves and shawls, environmental wall and object art using vines, muka, sticks and other natural materials.
