French-Canadian Micheline Robinson's work is informed by psychological/spiritual themes as she navigates life in NZ as an immigrant and explores what it means to be connected. Each work contains emotion and in her own unique style straddles figuration and 3D abstraction. With the Covid-19 outbreak, she developed two new series, one (during the first lockdown) which tackled our collective sense of isolation and revolved around the idea of the box. Biophilic glass-like worlds on large canvas were created peppered with symbolism of the lockdown as we nationally experienced the confinement.
As the world continues to wrestle with Covid-19, a second series has emerged. Botanical large sci-fi gardens of explosive roses and female forms exploring the nurturing and sexual power of women, is displayed in a new palette of pinks, mauves, and even blues. Works of this series will be revealed at the arts trail and hopes to offer a refreshing antidote to our daily news.
Micheline is a prolific profesionnal painter who uses traditional mediums in a contemporary style. In 2019 she was a finalist for the National Contemporary Art Award and has exhibited in 70 solo and group shows in 12 countries in the last 10 years.
