Guided tours of rooms during the Kāpiti Arts Trail
An important centre for Kāpiti’s many potters and ceramic artists, many living in and around Ōtaki, the Ōtaki Pottery Club is wonderfully thriving in its new premises at the Ōtaki Māori Racing Club a short drive east from State Highway 1 from the Ōtaki roundabout.
The Ōtaki Pottery Club was formed 30 years ago, previously on Ōtaki College grounds, to foster and teach the craft of pottery. When the club moved to the racecourse in 2020, the Tote Modern Gallery (just by the entrance to the clubrooms) was opened to enable the public to see and purchase high class pottery made by some of New Zealand’s finest potters ceramicists – who live or work in Kāpiti.
At the clubrooms you can see the work of many local potters, experienced, emerging, and beginners, and the workshop areas where potters work with wheels or hand-building, glazing, or firing.
