Neil Hey | Neil Hey Studio Pottery
Kāpiti Arts Trail: Listing 77
Artistic medium: Ceramics and pottery
Form follows function in the fine pottery at a brand-new studio in Ōtaki. Highly coloured and decorated glazed pottery suitable for everyday use reflects Neil's pursuit of enhanced form. Neil recently moved full-time to Kāpiti with Lindsay Hey, also in the Arts Trail, after an extensive career as an architect and ceramic artist, and already is embedded in the lively potters' scene in Ōtaki.
Neil has exhibited his pottery since 1991 in galleries throughout New Zealand, Australia, and California, and he has artwork in Canterbury Museum's archive collection, and in many private collections in New Zealand and abroad. He served as the President of NZ Potters for three years.
Neil's passion for pottery lies in the freedom to develop clean uninhibited forms, and the challenge of throwing clay and the transforming through firing from humble clay to vitrified ceramic.
