Shirley Sutton | S.A. Sutton Studio
Kāpiti Arts Trail: Listing 55
Artistic medium: Painting
Shirley works with oils, acrylics, and watercolour on her marvellous landscapes in her little studio overlooking her wonderful garden, complete with stream and bridges, cradled in the Waikanae East hills. Taking her inspiration from nature ever-changing, she often paints “en plein air” in front of the outdoor scenery she captures in her atmospheric, strongly coloured images of New Zealand and foreign scenes. Visitors often see a place they have visited, prompting memories.
Shirley has pursued her artistic career for over 40 years in Wellington, Kāpiti, Europe, and Australia. She has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions both in New Zealand and overseas and is also a competent tutor in watercolour and oil.
For the 2021 Arts Trail, Shirley will display her work at her studio and will also set up a temporary studio/gallery at the front of her house, to demonstrate her painting and to display her art, including her most recent work created in the Australian outback during the winter.
