Shirley Sutton, SA Sutton Studio and Gallery
Kāpiti Arts Trail: Guide Listing no. 81
Artistic medium: Painting
Shirley's prefered medium is oil but she also works in watercolour and acrylic, covering a wide variety of subjects. Her atmospheric paintings capture the colour, light and essence of the landscape on canvas with its different emotions and moods. They also reflect her extensive travels through Europe where she painted and sketched on a daily basis. She has published a book of her sketches and memoirs taken from her diaries. Shirley has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions both in New Zealand and overseas and is also a competent tutor in watercolour and oil. Shirley had her long awaited studio/gallery built last year in her secluded back garden.
