Kāpiti Arts Trail: Guide Listing no. 11
Artistic mediums: Painting (Acrylic, Watercolour), Print Blocks & Prints
Vanessa Owens is a Kāpiti Coast Artist who is inspired by the abundant bird life found living on Kāpiti’s rivers, reserves and lagoons. Vanessa’s preferred medium is acrylics onto stretched canvas and original watercolour.
Painting from a photo reference adds a realistic style to her birds, but she also allows her own interpretation, which gives her paintings a bold contemporary edge. The Waikanae Estuary and Ngā Manu Nature Reserve provide much inspiration for her preferred subject matter of New Zealand native birds. These include: tui, kingfisher, kereru, kiwi, and many more native birds.
