One of Kāpiti’s best known galleries, Artel was set up in 2009 initially as a co-operative, and evolving into a commercial gallery in 2014, Artel showcases the many quality artists in Kāpiti District and from further afield. The gallery director and team curate an eclectic and affordable range of fine art and fine craft: painting, photography, sculpture, ceramics/pottery, pounamu, jewellery, fibre/textiles, glass, printmaking, woodwork, and drawing.
For Kāpiti Arts Trail 2021, Artel hosts well-known artist Bee Doughty-Pratt (also in the Arts Trail) who is setting up her studio in the gallery at that time. As Artel is located on the busy main highway through Ōtaki, visitors can find parking at the rear of the gallery.
