Kāpiti Arts Trail: Listing 70
Artistic medium: Printmaking, painting
Award-winning printmaker for over 40 years, Rosemary creates extraordinary and beautifully detailed artworks from her unique use of abandoned birds’ nests around her home and studio in rural Te Horo. She prints the nests unaltered with no drawing and no plate, manipulating oily ink into the fragile construction during the process. Each nest incorporates diverse materials from whatever the birds find – building waste, horsehair, baling twine, hay, and feathers.
Rosemary has exhibited throughout New Zealand and in Europe in prestigious galleries and art shows including the Goodman Suter Biennale, Wellington City Art Gallery, and the Pacific Rim International Print Exhibition (2013). She has been a finalist and winner in several major art awards in New Zealand, Australia, and the US, including the BNZ Award for Printmaking, and the 34th Mini Print International of Cadaqués. She has taught at tertiary institutions and gives workshops for several organisations including the Print Council of Aotearoa New Zealand.
