Taja Farslow
Kāpiti Arts Trail: Listing 2
Artistic medium: Painting, ceramics and pottery
In her studio atop a hill close to the ocean in Paekākāriki, Taja creates expressive paintings and figure drawings in bold colours and with minimal lines to convey huge feelings. Taja has been painting for 20 years, after completing her Diploma in Fine art in 1997. Influences include the colour and shape of Matisse’s line drawings, and more recently the practice of Sumi-e (Japanese ink painting).
Through her art, she explores beauty through the use of simple line and colour to make her painting seem effortless and floating, bringing together balance, harmony, clarity, and simplicity. Taja has exhibited her portraits in Auckland and locally with her solo exhibition People of Paekākāriki.
