Parks Officer Ref - 62
Who could pass up a role with fresh air, community interaction, and active encouragement to try new and better ways of doing things?
Have you ever walked through a public park or playground and been impressed? Now, how about actually providing the community with these amazing places?
There’s plenty to excite you here. It’s not just about parks; recreation is a major part of the role too, so you’ll work on a much wider range of projects and initiatives. There’s scope to work on both new and upgrade projects, there’s a strong community focus, and you’ll be part of a team that wants to hear your thoughts and try new things.
You might be joining us straight from another council, or perhaps you’ve been a contractor working for another council. Either way, you could consider this role as a step up from work you’ve been doing, especially if you’ve been enjoying the outdoors but missing community interaction. There’s no particular qualification we expect, but you’ll certainly bring a background in parks and maybe some horticulture experience.
You’ll also need to be interested in project management, because that’s one thing that sets this role apart. Yes, you’ll take the lead in calling for tenders, engaging suppliers, and managing the contracts and be involved in the community consultation. It’s much more satisfying overseeing the whole process.
The culture in our Parks and Recreation team is a fun, collaborative one where we try to do things differently and better for great community outcomes – in fact, others look to us for inspiration.
And as far as life outside work goes, it doesn’t get much better than the growing Kapiti Coast. Here you’ll find plenty of sunshine, beaches, and with new transport links Wellington is more accessible than ever.
If you’re starting to think about all the possibilities and all the things you could achieve – for yourself and the Kapiti Coast – then it’s time for your next step.
