Profile - Ames Street, Paekakariki
Ames Street Paekākāriki runs from St. Peter's Hall in the north to the Ames Street reserve in the south.
Residents are a diverse bunch consisting of city commuters, young families living close to the village and folk who have lived in Paekākāriki for many years.
The team comprises households from the North end to the centre of the street, near the Beach access and includes: a community board member, a vintage shop owner, a blogger; and the neighbourhood watch coordinator.
Through the competition the team would like to create a greater sense of community within Ames Street. Their goals include:
- increasing their sustainability skills
- sharing and swapping skills and resources
It is hoped that achieving these goals will ensure resilience during a civil defence emergency for the street.
