Stage 2 - Kapiti District Speed Limit Review 2018-19
Earlier this year we carried out the second stage of our districtwide local road speed limit review, which covered reviewing the speed limits on the remaining 56 rural roads and in three village centres (Paekākāriki, Raumati South and Raumati Beach). Following community consultation this stage is now complete, and councillors have made the decision to implement speed limit changes on 47 rural roads and in the three village centres (Paekākāriki, Raumati South and Raumati Beach).
We received 224 submissions, which showed majority support for each of the proposed speed limit changes. The level of support varied depending on the road and ranged from 58% to 85%. The NZ Transport Agency, Police, AA and Kāpiti Cycle Action) supported all the proposed changes.
This was the second and final consultation in the review, which we began in mid-2017 and saw speed limit changes brought in for 36 roads across Kāpiti. The review is all about making roads in Kāpiti safer and more efficient.
