Tākiri o te ata Kaumātua Whakangāhau
Tākiri o te ata Kaumātua Whakangāhau, our Kaumātua Day, is an annual celebration of our kaumātua, when our community come together to connect, sing, dance, perform and show the best cultural entertainment in celebration.
Te Whakaminenga o Kāpiti and Kāpiti Coast District Council are proud supporters of this special day.
Piki mai, kake mai, tau mai rā
This year's event will be held on Saturday 13 July 2024, at Te Raukura ki Kāpiti, kicking off with a pōwhiri at 8am – you don't want to miss this! The day will also include:
- Māori kai stalls
- hauora (health) checks
- rongoā (traditional remedies)
- toi Māori (Māori art)
- tamariki activities
- Māori entertainment groups from 9am – there'll be 10 performances throughout the day.
Everyone in our community is welcome at this free event; events will finish up at 2.30pm
