Working within the Aquatics Facilities team, this role will help provide outstanding and safe aquatic leisure opportunities to the Kāpiti Coast Community. This role will be rostered in teams to work a cyclical roster between the Kapiti Coast District Council pools (Coastlands Aquatic Centre, Otaki Pool and Waikanae Pool – seasonal).
We are open to hiring either a Lifeguard or a Senior Lifeguard for this fulltime role, depending on your skills and qualifications.
As a Lifeguard, you will be responsible for upholding pool policies and procedures to enable safe and welcoming experience for our pool patrons. You will also be responsible for rescuing and reviving pool patrons in distress. As a progression, you will be provided with a framework to work towards a Senior Lifeguard capacity.
As a Senior Lifeguard, you will have an additional responsibility of supporting the Team Leader in the management of all staff on duty. You will be provided with opportunities to step up as a Team Leader Lifeguard.
Salary range for this role is $57,824 - $65,684 per annum pro-rata.

To excel in either of these roles ideally you will have the following skills and experience:
- Current Pool Lifeguard Practicing Certificate (PLPC). This can be obtained as part of the training as Lifeguard.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a demonstrated commitment to customer service and willingness to and capability for working with a wide range of people within and outside the organisation.
- Demonstrable ability to work effectively, unsupervised and within a team.
- Effective time management skills.
- Be capable of dealing with the public in a confident, calm and friendly manner and dealing with emergency situations.
- Be able to work all shifts of the roster – weekdays, weekends, day and late shifts.
- Hold a current full Drivers License.
As a Senior Lifeguard, the following are additional skills and qualifications required:
- Current First Aid Level 2
- Hold NZQA water quality management unit standards (20046) and has completed or is enrolled in Aquatics (Pool Lifeguard) Level 3.
- Possess skills and experience (or proven aptitude) to aid in aquatic plant operation and poolside supervision.
